Fraudsters target elderly confused by digital switchover
8:35am Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Fraudsters are trying to dupe vulnerable pensioners during the digital switchover, the council has warned.
The analogue television signal will be switched off in April, meaning TVs that are not fitted with the correct equipment will soon go blank.
It has been reported across London rogue traders are cashing in by pretending they offer a digital switchover service, and removing equipment and demanding up front fees of about £40.
They do not return, leaving their victim out of pocket and without a working television.
A national scheme, run by Digital UK, offers help and equipment to those aged 75 or over, and many disabled people.
Councillor Simon Wales, the council's executive member for communities, said: " "With so much choice it can be confusing, but we would urge residents to think carefully about who they let into their homes and who they hand over money to.
"If you have any concerns, contact our trading standards team, the police or DigitalUK."
